Design Engineer (Multi-Utility)

Our Design team is growing, and we’re excited to welcome a Design Engineer (Multi-Utility) to play a key role in reviewing and approving network designs across gas, electricity, water, and heat.
You’ll ensure compliance with industry, legislative, and company standards while providing technical oversight, supporting commercial and operational teams, and driving efficient design acceptance processes.
This role will ideally be based in our Hamilton, Glasgow office, but we are also open to candidates based in our Gloucestershire, Warrington, London, or Cardiff offices.

Your responsibilities as a Design Engineer (Multi-Utility):
- Manage and review a portfolio of multi-utility design submissions, ensuring compliance with legislation, industry standards, and company policies for timely acceptance.
- Maintain accurate project documentation and produce KPI/management reports to support business objectives.
- Collaborate with ICPs, the Asset Adoption team, and external stakeholders to provide technical support, alternative design solutions, and ensure high-quality, compliant designs.
- Lead and support the design variation and acceptance process, driving improvements, best practice, and a consistent approach across the team.
- Provide specialist technical support to operational teams, industry stakeholders, and internal departments, contributing to the company’s wider design strategy.
- Work efficiently to meet commercial, financial, and performance targets while continuously identifying opportunities to improve design performance and customer experience.
Experience / Knowledge:
- Significant, demonstrable experience on a range of utility network design projects across industrial, domestic, and multiple-occupancy constructions.
- Detailed knowledge of standards and guidance.
- Knowledge of CAD software and current drawing conventions.
- Working knowledge of GASWORKS/WinDebut software.
- Detailed knowledge of GIRS/WIRS/NERS standards and guidance
Qualifications
- Degree of equivalent in Engineering or demonstrable knowledge and experience in a relevant engineering discipline
