Our London Electrical Design team is growing, and we're excited to welcome a talented Electrical Design Engineer to join us.
As an Electrical Design Engineer at UKPS, you’ll play a key role in delivering compliant, technically sound, and cost-effective designs for new and modified electricity distribution networks ranging from LV up to 132kV. You’ll prepare and coordinate design submissions for contestable works, work closely with DNOs/IDNOs, and provide ongoing technical support to ensure successful project delivery through the planning and construction phases.

Your responsibilities as an Electrical Design Engineer:
- Design and Deliver High-Voltage Network Solutions
You’ll develop electrical distribution network designs for new connections, diversions, and reinforcements up to 132kV. This includes carrying out load assessments, cable calculations, substation layouts, and producing all supporting documentation. - Ensure Compliance and Safety
Your designs will comply with DNO/IDNO specifications (such as G81), ENA standards, and all relevant legal, regulatory, and health & safety requirements, ensuring projects are delivered to the highest standards. - Plan, Monitor and Drive Project Progress
You’ll manage design schedules, monitor progress against key milestones, and work closely with the project team to flag risks and keep projects on track for successful delivery. - Collaborate with Key Stakeholders
You’ll liaise directly with DNOs, IDNOs, clients, and internal teams to secure design approvals, resolve technical queries, and present your designs in meetings with key stakeholders. - Support Learning and Continuous Improvement
You’ll work alongside Senior Design Engineers, contribute to team knowledge sharing, and stay current with the latest industry developments and best practices.
Experience / Knowledge:
- Experience in utility design and planning sector in a similar role.
- An understanding of distribution networks.
- Previous experience of connections design is a distinct advantage.
- Familiarity with DNO/IDNO standards and the contestable works process.
- Proficient in AutoCAD or other electrical design tools and software.
- Experience with HV design up to 33kV or above.
- Exposure to ENA G81 standards and CDM regulations.
Qualifications
- A degree in Electrical Engineering or similar discipline, with modules in Power Distribution
