Networks Control Engineer (Electricity) – Remote, UK

We are now looking for a skilled Networks Control Engineer for Electricity to join us. This is a remote role based in the UK with travel to our Glasgow office when required.

As a Networks Control Engineer (Electricity), you will oversee the operation and control of our electricity distribution networks at LV and HV. You will play a key role in ensuring safety, compliance and best practice across all activities while supporting work on and additions to our networks. You will also be responsible for providing accurate and timely reporting on network performance and regulatory submissions.

Your responsibilities as a Network Controls Engineer (Electricity):

  • Lead the response to electricity supply interruptions, ensuring power is restored quickly and efficiently while acting as the main daily contact for customers, call centre teams, emergency service providers, contractors and ICPs.
  • Manage emergency and planned network activities, including dispatching response teams, coordinating communication with all parties and ensuring all incidents are resolved, recorded and reported accurately.
  • Process network connection and access requests, review and approve high voltage switching schedules and oversee safe and compliant operations on the electricity network.
  • Investigate and resolve customer voltage and quality of supply issues, and manage reactive works arising from inspections, customer queries, developers or contractors.
  • Support commercial and operational processes by negotiating quotations, raising purchase orders, reviewing work packs and approving contractor and supplier invoices, while maintaining accurate asset records across business systems.
  • Provide technical leadership, uphold regulatory and OFGEM standards and contribute to continuous improvement of operational procedures, technical standards and overall network performance.

 

Experience / Knowledge:

  • Strong practical experience working on Low Voltage and High Voltage electricity distribution networks, with solid understanding of network construction, work processes, materials and IDNO and DNO interface arrangements.
  • Excellent working knowledge of relevant safety and electricity legislation, including the Health and Safety at Work Act and the Electricity at Work Regulations, along with thorough understanding of Distribution Safety Rules.
  • Proven commitment to health, safety and compliance, with experience applying Health and Safety principles in an electricity construction environment.
  • Confident IT skills, including MS Word, Excel and Outlook, with the ability to work effectively with commercial and in house systems.

Qualifications

  • Qualification(s) demonstrating electrical technical understanding at HNC level.
  • Evidence of operational experience on Licensed electricity networks (DNO or IDNO) at 11kV minimum, having held Authorisation as a Senior Authorised Person
