Our dedicated team in Hamilton, Glasgow is expanding, and Last Mile are excited to welcome a talented Electrical Design Engineer to join us. You'll embark on a journey to master both Design Acceptance Engineering and Connections Engineering in the utilities electricity sector.

As an Electrical Design Engineer, you will be responsible for reviewing and approving Electricity Network designs from Independent Connection Providers (ICPs), ensuring they meet our standards. You will also lead the quoting process and oversee licensed works on existing networks. This includes developing innovative design solutions, collaborating with contractors and network operators, estimating costs accurately, and successfully managing projects to completion.

While this role is based in Hamilton, Glasgow, allowing the ideal candidate to benefit from collaborating closely with our team, we are also open to remote applicants. Remote team members will need to attend the Hamilton office periodically.

Your responsibilities as an Electrical Design Engineer:

This position enjoys varied and broad responsibilities, providing the successful candidate with experience covering all the Engineering Council Professional Engineering competencies.

These include:

  • Review of electricity distribution network designs produced and submitted by third party ICPs 
  • Production of designs for new connections activities
  • Tendering and quotation production
  • Delivery and Project Management
  • Management of project finances
  • Mentoring and workload management of Technical Coordinators and Graduate Engineers where required
  • Engagement with customers and stakeholder businesses around the UK

About you:

Experience / Knowledge:

 Utilities experience is desirable but not essential.

  • Ability to effectively understand and interpret engineering drawings and appropriate commercial documentation to enable design acceptance.
  • Excellent IT literacy with the ability to use MS Word, MS Excel and MS Outlook.
  • Ability to adapt to or have experience of commercial / in-house design and Windebut
  • Excellent numeracy and analytical ability

Qualifications

  •  Minimum of HNC in an Engineering related discipline or equivalent industry experience
